This version of the framework will run on Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 7, and the latest Windows Server 2008 R2. To write any of this code, you will need to have the .NET 4 SDK installed. Though it is possible to do all this in a simple text editor, you are probably going to want to install Visual Studio 2010. Installing Visual Studio will also install the .NET Framework 4 to your machine. At the time of this writing, you are going to need to go to http://www.silverlight.net and install the latest Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio either using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer or the executable provided on the site.
